    CGI Netherlands are the winner of the 2016 NCCC Business of the Year Award. The award, announced during the Annual Luncheon on 8th November 2016 in Amstelveen, was presented to Sander van den Born, VP Marketing, Communication & Innovation by Her Excellency Ambassador Sabine Nolke.

    The award is designed to recognize companies that have significantly advanced the relationship between Canada and the Netherlands. In line with this years' luncheon theme of innovation, the jury praised the CGI Spark Innovation Center, an inspiring environment at the head office in Rotterdam, where CGI allows its visitors to experience the technological possibilities of the future. The space was officially opened last year by Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the NCCC Cyber-security event was held there in June.

    Maeson Ethard, (pictured right) Managing Director at Base Cyber Security, is the winner of the 2016 Air Canada Young Professional Award. The award, announced during the Annual Luncheon on 8th November 2016 in Amstelveen, was presented by Joost Hasperhoven, Manager Benelux for Air Canada.

    This NCCC award, sponsored by Air Canada, is designed to recognize young individuals who have advanced the relationship between Canada and the Netherlands. Candidates can submit their application either as an individual (professional) or as an entrepreneur (young company). The winner receives two tickets to fly to Canada with Air Canada.

    Contributing to safer, shared digital environments and societies, Base Cyber Security helps companies and organizations strengthen their cyber security teams and capabilities, build the right type of teams, attract the right experts and add value to their overall efforts.The company are planning to open an office in Canada next year.

    Maeson is also the first Young Professional & Entrepreneur (YPE) member of the NCCC. He has been appointed interim chairman of the group and is working to grow the YPE membership base.

    There is now a Belgian agreement on CETA . All parliaments are now able to approve the document by tomorrow at midnight. This is an important step for Europe and Canada. More details will follow.

    QUEBEC CITY, 3rd Oct 2016: Today ambassador Henk van der Zwan is officially on the job: he presented his credentials today to His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

    Ambassador Van Der Zwan is looking forward to work with Canadians to maintain and expand the already rock solid relationship between Canada and the Netherlands. Deputy Head of Mission Frederieke Quispel accompanied ambassador Van Der Zwan to the capital of Quebec. 

    The newly appointed ambassador will raise awareness of “the Netherlands in Canada” in its broad sense and will brand the Netherlands as an innovative and green country, keen on sustainable solutions in urban environments (smart & liveable cities), education, focusing on trade and energy and working together on peace and security, and other important topics that bind Canada and the Netherlands.

    Ambassador Van Der Zwan is looking forward to meet as many Canadians as possible and to have a firm understanding of the country and its people by talking to people from all walks of life in his host country. He feels honoured to serve in Canada, and is in awe of its magnificent beauty and space. The  rock solid and unique relationship the Netherlands and Canada has developed over the years is not seen as a given, but as a huge privilege to work with and to further develop in the coming years.

    Accreditation occurs when a new ambassador presents "letters of credence", or diplomatic credentials, to the host country's official head of state. Letters of credence, which are signed by the ambassador's own head of state, confirm that the ambassador is authorised to represent his or her country, and ask that the host country respect this fact.

    Minister of Foreign Affairs and Canadian AmbassadorThe NCCC was once again proud to be a sponsor of the Canada Day celebrations held yesterday at the Official Residence of the Canadian Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

    Chairman John van Pol met with Stéphane Dion (centre), the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa, and Sabine Nölke, the Canadian Ambassador, during the festivities.

    The Netherlands is Canada’s fifth-largest trading partner – second largest in the European Union – and the second-largest investor in Canada.  Over one million Canadians can trace their roots back to the Netherlands, and thousands of Canadians have made the Netherlands their home. 

    During the opening speeches, both the Minister and the Ambassador made reference to the continuing good relations between the two countries; whether it is through the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, of which Ms Nölke is a permanent member, the international courts and legal institutions based in The Hague, or the growth in trade, commerce and cultural relations.

    After a number of weeks of heavy rain, the weather cooperated and the outdoor BBQ was a big hit.

    On Friday 17th June, NCCC Executive Director Julie Allen was Master of Ceremonies at the launch of "Building Your Business in the Netherlands". This event was organized by the Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency and Brainport Eindhoven, and took place at the MaRS Discovery District located in Toronto.

    More than 50 companies registered for the event to hear about the advantages of choosing the Netherlands as a hub for their European expansion. Opened by Anne van Leeuwen, the Netherlands Consul General in Toronto, the first presentation explained the services that the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency can offer to Canadian companies (which are free and confidential). Following that, the Mayor of Eindhoven spoke about the attractions of the region and then his team elaborated on the great Soft-Landing program which the Brainport Region has to offer.

    The last part of the formal program was a panel discussion with the CEO of Contax, a large SAP player and the CFO of Northland Power, who have built large wind farms in the North Sea. From them we learned first-hand about their experience when entering the European market and some of the cultural differences that they found. This was really valuable information for the audience.

    During the busy networking event, Andrea Merluzzi, National Manager of Business Development at Air Canada who sponsored the event, performed the draw of the Air Canada ticket to The Netherlands. Bill Bulham was the lucky winner!

    The  Netherlands-Canada Chamber of Commerce  (NCCC) provides seminars, events and a networking forum for business people and professionals with Canadian interests. Members interact on a regular basis, discuss common business issues and help to promote the economic and social interests of its members.

    The NCCC currently seeks to recruit new Board members who will reflect the composition of the Chamber and the needs and aspirations of its current and future members. In particular, the organization would like to attract senior Board candidates with experience in finance, strategy and visioneering.   

    In addition,  potential Board members will possess a complementary leadership combination of skills and attributes, including governance and business planning experience. Above all, Board members should display the drive and enthusiasm to contribute to the Chamber with demonstrated commitment through participation in events; whether as a Board member or a volunteer.

    The Board meets two-four times per year as needed. One meeting is face-to-face. The rest are via conference call.

    Expansion into the Netherlands is a natural extension of their existing presence in Belgium as well as their planned entry into Luxembourg

    Hudson's Bay Company ("HBC" or the "Company") (TSX:HBC) is pleased to announce that it is expanding its European presence with plans for up to 20 new stores in the Netherlands over the next 24 months. The Company has finalized and is in the process of finalizing long term leases for select, sought after locations. The first stores are expected to launch in the summer of 2017 and operate under the Hudson's Bay banner as well as the Saks OFF 5TH banner. The expansion into the Netherlands will build on HBC Europe's existing infrastructure and will utilize the same platforms such as information technology, procurement and digital support.
